World Scout Jamboree

The World Scout Jamboree is unlike anything else in Scouting. It brings together over 50,000 young people and adult volunteers from across the world for an unforgettable experience of culture, adventure and friendship. In 2027 it will be held in Poland, and I’m incredibly proud to be one of the four adult volunteers selected to represent Lincolnshire alongside Georgia, Dawn and Kev. Together we’ll be supporting our unit, helping them get the most out of what truly is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Being completely honest, I wasn’t expecting to be selected as I’m relatively new to Scouting when compared to many adults in the movement. I went along purely for the experience and to know what to prepare for when the next selection process happens in 4 years time. Surprisingly, the “judges” saw something in me and offered me the place. When I found out I’d been chosen it was a mix of excitment, pride and the realisation of just how big this journey is going to be.

What many people don’t realise is that, just like the young people attending, the adult volunteers also need to fund their place. There’s a common assumption that leaders are funded, but that isn’t the case – we each have to raise the same amount ourselves. That means taking on fundraising challenges, seeking sponsorship, and finding creative ways to reach our targets, all while continuing to volunteer our time locally. It’s a big commitment, but one I’m fully invested in, because I know the impact this experience will have not just on the young people, but on all of us involved.

This journey isn’t just about getting to Poland – it’s about everything that happens along the way. The training camps, the team building, the preparation, and the shared experiences all build towards something much bigger. By the time we arrive at the Jamboree, we won’t just be a group from Lincolnshire – we’ll be a tight-knit unit ready to represent our community on a global stage.
